PARALLeL UNIVERSE
artworks by Jazel Kristin
Multi-media artist JAZEL KRISTIN brings to France an exhibit bursting with color and humor. Her quirky one-of-a-kind photo collages upturn conventional ideas and fuse together opposing worlds. Her style builds on the basic idea of cut-and-paste, allowing viewers to experience layers of color, shape and even sound.
For her maiden exhibit in France, the artist captures the experience of living in two worlds, a journey that begins in the Philippines, her home country, and heads to France, an unfamiliar place where she falls in love, tries to fit in and finally finds herself living in a Parallel Universe.
Disregarding time and space and the conventions of perspective and gravity, Jazel Kristin’s handmade single-edition images brings her viewers into her universe, a place not quite like her home but feels like it in the blending of cultures and viewpoints.
Each artwork is uniquely made, with the use only of glue, scissors and the occasional coloring materials.
Jazel Kristin has displayed her works at the SilverLens, Penguin Gallery, Black Soup Gallery, Alliance Francaise de Manille and VOCAS (Victor Oteyza Community Art Space) in the Philippines. SilverLens represented her art works at last year’s HK ART FAIR at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre. Her works were recently featured in Design for Mankind’s Inspiration E-Zine and Blanket Magazine.
April & May 2009, Jazel Kristin will be at Cite des Arts, Paris for an Artist Residency through the Mairie de Paris.
